Stephen J. Mannhaupt, CPA

Stephen J. Mannhaupt, CPA, is the Partner-in-Charge of Accounting and Attest Services at Grassi. Steve specializes in public accounting, forensic accounting, auditing, and management consulting for clients in the not-for-profit, architecture and engineering, professional service, construction, and real estate industries. Since beginning his career in 1990, Steve has provided expert guidance to clients in specialized areas such as sustainability, internal control assessment, fraud prevention and investigation, and corporate operational efficiency, in addition to traditional accounting, tax, and audit support.

Steve has been a part of the Grassi. team for more than 25 years, and is a member of the firm’s Executive Committee. Steve also serves as the Chair of the Firm’s Internal Accounting and Auditing Committee. In this role, Steve is responsible for ensuring the Firm is in compliance with professional standards and that the staff is current with the ever changing accounting and auditing guidance. Additionally, Steve frequently provides formal continuing education (CPE) training programs for all levels of Grassi’s staff.

To keep abreast of the issues facing our clients, Steve stays active in industry trade associations and the New York Building Congress (NYBC). Steve is an active presenter at the New York State Society of CPAs (NYSSCPA) – Foundation of Accounting Education (FAE) and the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA).

An expert in his field, Steve has written articles on a variety of accounting topics and has conducted educational seminars for clients, accounting societies, and other professionals in banking, surety and law.

As part of Steve’s charitable endeavors, he serves on the board of directors of the ACE Mentor Foundation, where he holds the officer role of Treasurer.

Steve is a graduate of Queens College and is a member of the NYSSCPA and the AICPA.




Michael Harper
Director in KPMG’s Digital Lighthouse

Michael is a Director in KPMG’s Digital Lighthouse with nearly 10 years of experience in planning, leading and executing complex projects and programs for Fortune 500 companies across multiple industries. He has led global teams across multiple functional areas including Program and Project Management, Process Improvement, Intelligent Automation (IA), and Customer Service Operations.

Michael has been his clients’ primary contact on the ground to coordinate the all aspects of their IA programs, including but not limited to business case development, design, configuration, implementation, governance, and Center of Excellence set up and execution. He has helped clients implement solutions using Robotic Process Automation, low code development, machine learning, natural language processing, and other technologies, all while following the guiding principles of maximizing value and mitigating risks.

Additionally, he focuses on helping clients take advantage of digital technologies and capabilities for customer service by leveraging machine learning, natural language processing, chat, IVR and other technologies to create exceptional service experiences.

Prior to joining KPMG, Michael served 6.5 years in the US Army as a Combat Engineer Officer. His duty stations include Ft. Leonard Wood, Fort Lewis, Fort Riley, and Fort Hamilton, as well as 2 deployments in Iraq.





John Cottongim
Co-Founder and COO of Roots Automation Inc.

John Cottongim is the Co-Founder and COO of Roots Automation Inc., an Automation-as-a-Service company focused on delivering Intelligent Automation at scale. He is responsible for delivering on the promise of creating a more capable, interactive and enjoyable Digital Co-Worker.

Previously, John headed the Enterprise Automation Hub at Mars Incorporated and AIG’s Automation program for Life, Retirement, and Global Business Services.

Prior to work in Automation, John led Lean Transformation initiatives, working with teams across the globe to deliver customer value through process excellence and cultural change.

John is a CFA® charter holder, Certified Scrum Product Owner® and holds a Lean Competency System - Level 2a certificate from Cardiff University. He also holds an MBA from New York University, as well as BS degrees in Finance and Accounting from Villanova University.

Michele Yen
Manager with PKF O’Connor Davies

Michele Yen is a Manager with PKF O’Connor Davies and has over 35 years of accounting and auditing experience. Her experience includes two years with the County of Nassau Comptroller’s Office and eight years as their auditor. She served as the Assistant Controller for the Epilepsy Foundation of Long Island for five years. She has provided financial statement preparation services and client assistance to various municipalities and non-profits including closing out capital projects, grants management, and review of internal control systems.



Michele contributes her time to various associations, many as a committee or board member. She has been a presenter for the New York Government Finance Officers’ Association and Co-Chair of the New York State Society of Certified Public Accountants Government Accounting and Auditing Conference. In addition, Michele is a Past President of the IMA’s Long Island Chapter.



Michele also currently serves as the Secretary for her local school district’s Citizens Advisory Committee for Finance.
