Suburban Hospital Alliance of New York State, LLC

Wendy D. Darwell was appointed the President and Chief Executive Officer of the Suburban Hospital Alliance of New York State and its two regional entities, the Nassau-Suffolk Hospital Council and Northern Metropolitan Hospital Association, in 2021. She previously served as the associations’ chief operating officer for 13 years.

The Suburban Hospital Alliance represent the interests of public and not-for-profit hospitals on Long Island and in the Hudson Valley. In this role, she advocates for hospitals before the state and federal governments, provides expertise on a broad range of health policy issues and oversees membership and education services. She also directs grant programs that assist uninsured consumers in enrolling in health insurance, provide regional coordination of population health activities and organize emergency preparedness efforts.

Prior to joining the Hospital Council in 2007, Ms. Darwell served for seven years as chief of staff to the late U.S. Representative Maurice Hinchey, who represented portions of New York’s Hudson Valley, Southern Tier, and Finger Lakes regions. In that capacity, she directed the congressman’s legislative, media, and political operations. From 1994 to 2000, she served in several legislative and communications positions on Congressman Hinchey’s staff, specializing in health care, appropriations, and community development policy.

Ms. Darwell is a member of the American College of Healthcare Executives and the Healthcare Financial Management Association. She also sits on advisory committee for the Stony Brook University Master of Health Administration Program, as well as on the boards of the Healthcare Executives Club and the Jefferson’s Ferry Life Plan Community. Previously she served on the advisory board for the Zarb School of Business at Hofstra University. In 2011, she was appointed to Governor Cuomo’s Medicaid Redesign Team workgroup on Program Streamlining and State/Local Responsibilities, which focused on reforming the state’s Medicaid enrollment and eligibility processes and bringing the system into compliance with federal regulations.

Ms. Darwell earned a Master of Business Administration with a concentration in health services management from the Zarb School of Business at Hofstra University and a Bachelor of Arts in political science from American University.

Dr. Patrick O’Shaughnessy

Catholic Health President & CEO Dr. Patrick O’Shaughnessy is an innovative and inspirational leader who is transforming Catholic Health with an intense focus on quality and performance, while advocating prevention to bend the disease curve. He oversees a mission-driven $3.2 billion health system in Long Island, encompassing six acute care hospitals, three nursing homes, home health services, hospice, a network of physician practices and more than 16,000 employees. 
 
Dr. O’Shaughnessy is passionate about extending Catholic Health’s healing mission to help people live healthier lives. He believes population health management is the solution to many challenges facing health systems nationwide. One of his priorities is addressing social determinants of health with a focus on alleviating food insecurity.
 
A native Long Islander, Dr. O’Shaughnessy is a former emergency physician and licensed pilot who has built his career applying the concepts of emergency triage and aviation safety to health care clinical operations. He previously served as the health system’s chief medical officer and chief clinical officer. 
 
Dr. O’Shaughnessy earned his medical degree from New York College of Osteopathic Medicine, a master’s in business administration from Adelphi University, and a master’s degree in Population Health Management from Thomas Jefferson University.

Recognized as one of Crain’s New York Business’s Notable 2022 Health Care Leaders, Dr. O’Shaughnessy serves on the New York State Long Island Regional Economic Development Council as well as committees for the Healthcare Association of New York State, The Greater New York Hospital Association, Nassau Suffolk Hospital Association, and the New York Institute of Technology. He is also a member of the Wall Street Journal CEO Council and serves as a board member of the Long Island Association (LIA) where he co-chairs the Health, Education and Non-Profit Committee.

An active member of the American College of Physician Executives, he is board certified in emergency medicine and health care quality and management. 

Bob Arnold

Bob Arnold, Jr. serves as a trusted advisor and altruistic servant leader committed to adding value and rendering exceptional service. He is the President of Arnold Standard Cos., a Management Consulting Firm established more than 50 years ago that specializes in expense reduction. In addition to being a recognized expert in workers’ compensation and unemployment insurance, Bob is also a licensed insurance broker and serves as President of Arnold Standard Risk Services, Inc., as well as President of ASI Recruiters, Inc. As an independent agent of The Klean Company, Bob is revolutionizing the world of healthcare environmental hygiene by eradicating Healthcare Acquired Infections from healthcare facilities, as well as mold and bacteria from military installations, and schools. 

Bob serves the business community through his dedicated involvement with the Institute of Management Accountants (IMA), where he is an active member of the Board, and Past President of the Long Island Chapter, and Past President of the IMA Metropolitan New York Regional Council. He also serves on the NYS Society of CPAs Members in Industry Committee for Suffolk County, as well as multiple educational committees of the Healthcare Financial Management Association, Metropolitan New York Chapter. He is also currently serving on the Board of the Healthcare Executives Club.

A passionate supporter of our military, Bob serves on the Board of the Bob Feller Act of Valor Award Foundation, the Corporate Committee of the Navy League of the United States, Long Island Council, and Board of the Towers of Freedom Military Monument, a memorial located in Massapequa dedicated to those lost in the events of 9/11, as well as our fallen members of the military in the subsequent war on terror.

Bob received his Bachelor of Science, with majors in both Finance and Marketing, from the Leonard N. Stern School of Business at NYU. Prior to that, he received his A.S. in Business Administration from Nassau Community College, where he was a member of Phi Theta Kappa International Honor Society.
